Abstract

Reports extensively on the performance of the gambling industries and their economic and social impacts across Australia, including their impact on the retail, tourism and entertainment industries, and on Commonwealth and State/Territory Budgets. Reviews impacts of gambling, including problem gambling, estimates the economic cost of problem gambling, and examines the link between availability and problem development. Reviews regulatory arrangements including those pertaining to gambling machines and new forms of gambling, competition restrictions, access regulation, and consumer protection. Evaluates arrangements for helping problem gamblers, and the changing nature and role of gambling taxation.
