Betting on recovery

Abstract

This editorial focuses on women and money addiction, with four articles that illustrate the grip that gambling addiction and compulsive buying disorder can have on women's lives and the hope that group treatment can offer those seeking recovery. The issue's first article reviews the history of compulsive buying and the treatments that have developed in response. The second article, provides a detailed case study of Amanda, who participated in a 12-week telecoaching group. The third article, describes the use of journaling as a data collection method and therapeutic technique in an all female group for problem gamblers in Canada. Finally, the fourth article in this issue reviews the literature on gender differences among problem gamblers specific to disorder etiology, patterns of behavior, and treatment needs and preferences. It is hoped that this issue will definitely achieve its aim. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2013 APA, all rights reserved)
