Discusses the increased availability of gambling and the changes in social and economic discourses surrounding it. Twenty-two essays in seven sections examine the current state of gambling research, covering current trends in commercial gambling; economic and social costs and benefits; crime, law and commercial regulation; theories of addiction and pathological gambling; trends in gambling and problem gambling; psychological and environmental influences on gambling; and moral and ethical aspects of gambling.
