Regulatory failure? The case of Crown Casino

Abstract

Casinos have gone “under the radar” of public scrutiny. This book goes behind the scenes to the facts in a case study of Crown Casino Melbourne. Interviews with 225 Casino staff tell it how it is. This is a story of regulatory failure – failed implementation of “responsible gambling”, failed performance against international best practice benchmarks, targeting of vulnerable groups like senior citizens and patrons served drinks to the point of intoxication and then expelled onto the streets of Southbank. Where is the regulator in all of this?
