Lays out the theoretical discussion on the nature of problem gambling, its clinical characteristics, prevalence and demographics, and occurance in special populations. Brings together a wide number of perspectives on problem and pathological gambling, ranging from the philosophic to the pragmatic, exploring fundamental questions of causality, incidence and prevalence, correlations with other aberrant behavior, the effectiveness of treatment programs or regimes, and whether or not pathological gambling is essentially a psycholoigcal/behavioral or a physiological/chemical phenomenon.
