The National Lottery and the individualisation of gambling in Britain

I want to take a broad look at the role of the NL today; look at its role in social and political life - who plays it and what's done with the money they spend on it- and put this in the historical context of lotteries more generally. I also want to highlight some issues that I think tend to be overlooked in discussions about the lottery. One of the most significant of these is what could be called a move towards the individualisation of gambling.
