Why risk it? Exploring responsible gambling in the school setting

Abstract

This paper explores the dynamics involved in introducing responsible gambling curriculum into schools. We draw attention to the issues associated with gambling in relation to children and young people and in so doing locate the importance and a framework for education strategies. We endeavour to outline the processes and protocols when working across government departments to introduce a new subject into the school curriculum, and we explore what it means to work between the spaces of school and government and the overall perceived effectiveness of the responsible gambling curriculum modules that have been implemented in Queensland schools.
